My Beloved

While the imposter draws his identity
from past achievements
and the adulation of others,
the true self claims identity
in its belovedness.
Being the beloved is our identity,
the core of our existence.

Some days it just comes down to simplicity.
I am my Beloved's and He is mine.
There is faith and hope
and actions and revelation and truth--
and on many days, I am praying
about something relative to these.
But today, when all I can do is sit
before the One who thought me
into existence through His great love,
I rest in the fact that I am His beloved.
My Beloved speaks and says to me,
Rise up, My love, My fair one,
and come away.
As I rise up to greet this day,
I rise up to come away with Him.
Vulnerable yet secure,
Stripped yet at peace.
Some days, I know less that I did before.
But some days, less is more.
Today, this is more than enough for me.
His voice and speech are exceedingly sweet;
yes, He is altogether lovely, delightful and precious.
This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend.
Song of Solomon 5:16
