Life Giver

Adam named his wife Eve
because she was the mother of all the living.
Genesis 3:20
Adam was responsible for naming.
There is identity and power in a name.
The Hebrew name for Eve is chawa,
which means life giver.
It is interesting that he called her a life giver
before she gave birth to anything.
Adam had to have had wisdom and discernment
from the Lord to name what he didn't really know.
He didn't wait until she had children to call her Eve.
The Lord had communicated her identity
before Adam could have had a clue
what motherhood would be.

As women, we have the ability to call life forth
out of every situation.
We literally call forth life when we give birth,
but the redemptive power of life in us
is for more than birthing our natural children.
It is a creative ability to bring forth
something of greater value
than we hold in raw form.
Reading about the Proverbs 31 woman:
She takes wool and spins fabric.
She takes food and cooks meals.
She takes fabric and sews belted linen garments.
She takes words and gives kind instructions.
On this Mother's Day, I am grateful for the privilege
of raising five amazing children.
I got to birth purpose, identity and calling
through these precious lives.
But, I am also grateful for the creative spirit
that God has given me as a woman.
And His desire is that I call forth life
wherever I go and whatever I put my hand to.
I get to bring His restorative,
resurrection life wherever I go.
When everything in culture can point to
hopelessness and death,
I am an Eve.
I am a life giver.
