Just As I Have Loved

So now I am giving you a new commandment:
Love each other. Just as I have loved you,
you should love each other.
John 13:34
There are a lot of "just as" commands in the Bible.
Some translations read,"In the exact same way."
Jesus gives His disciples a command to love--
just as, or in the exact same way, that He loves.
Reading that verse this morning, I thought,
do I dare want to know exactly what that looks like?
I thought of how He laid down His life, even to death on a cross,
how He served and how He related with sinners.
But the Holy Spirit reminded me that everything He did
was totally motivated by the love He had for His Father.

"I do as the Father has commanded Me,
so that the world may know that I love the Father...."
John 14:30
Jesus ultimately went to the cross
because of the radical love He had for His Father.
The only way to love just as He loved
is to love the Father in the same way.
If it is, "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,"
then my one goal is to recognize
the love that Christ has for His Father.
Jesus, how can Your love for Father
be expressed through my life today?
Every command seems impossible
until I remember that it is not I who live,
but Christ lives in me.
Oh, this thing called love.
It is the one commandment that is above all others.
It is the highest calling.
It is possible to love like He loved.
It is what Christ longs to do through us.
You came to do the will of Your Father, Lord.
You haven't changed Your mind.
