Still Standing

If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge
but the very secrets of God,
and if I also have that absolute faith
which can move mountains,
but have no love, I amount to nothing at all.
If I have no love,
I achieve precisely nothing.
Love knows no limit to its endurance,
no end to its trust,
no fading of its hope;
it can outlast anything.
It is, in fact, the one thing
that still stands when all else has fallen.
1Cor 13
We all lose stuff.
We lose the little--books, wallets, keys.
We lose the more consequential--
people we love, jobs, relationships,
health, opportunity, fortunes, houses, hope.
But God's word says that when all else has fallen,
when nothing remains that we thought would remain,
love still stands.
It doesn't end. It doesn't give up.
It doesn't lose hope.
If we have no love,
we have "precisely nothing."
But if we have love, we have
"the greatest of these."
Greater than hope, greater than faith.
Because God is love.
He is not hope; He is not faith.
And if we have that which is exactly like God,
we have that which lasts eternal and forever.
As today swirls around me,
and I find myself unsure of focus,
may I be aware of
this thing called love.
Lord, I desperately need a deeper revelation
of how to love more like You.
I need Your kindness, Your patience,
Your "keeping no record" attitude.
Jesus, I just need more of You.
The bottom line of every day.
