But As for Me

But as for me, I will sing about Your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about Your unfailing love.
For You have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.
O my Strength, to You I sing praises,
for You, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love. Psalm 59

David wrote this psalm as his house was surrounded
by Saul's soldiers who were trying to kill him.
He had his home surrounded by enemies
and he sat down and wrote an entire psalm to his God.
He made decrees about his enemies and
decrees about God.
"My enemies come out at night and prowl...
But for me, I will sing about Your power."
No cowering in a corner.
No paralyzing fear for his life.
He knew His God and so he sat down
and wrote words that are still speaking thousands of years later,
bringing encouragement and strength to everyone who reads.
I might not have soldiers camping outside my house.
But I do have an enemy who,
because of God's great love for me,
has been slightly irritated at my life.
Situations have come up over the years
that have caused me to be fearful,
to cower and be paralyzed by circumstances.
But over time, I have been learning to say with David,
"But as for me, O God, you have been a safe place.
You have shown me unfailing love."
Each morning I will declare Your unfailing love.
You are my great strength."
I can rest in the midst of declarations like that.
David says in the next psalm,
With God’s help we will do mighty things,
for he will trample down our enemies.
Our declarations of who God is
speak beyond our own life.
They become incarnate--His life through ours--
so that others can know of His great power
and His great love.
With God's help,
we will do these mighty things.
Lord, You are so good to us!

  1. This is so well written, Kath! So deeply encouraging to all who read! Indeed, He sets a table before us in the presence of our enemies! (Psalm 23) Love the picture, too! Thank you for writing every day!
