Bark and Branches

I am the real vine, my Father is the vine-dresser.
He removes any of my branches which are not bearing fruit
and he prunes every branch that does bear fruit to increase its yield.
You must go on growing in me and I will grow in you...
I am the vine itself, you are the branches.
It is the one who shares my life
and whose life I share who proves fruitful.
If you live your life in me,
and my words live in your hearts,
you can ask for whatever you like
and it will come true for you.
John 15
My friend Sarah sent me this picture this morning.
It is a reminder that even in this winter season,
these branches are growing
even more tightly around the "vine itself,"
so that the two are becoming one.
The bark and branches are so intertwined
that it makes an eternal impression on the tree.
It becomes difficult to tell which is the branch
and which is the "vine."
That is a beautiful picture.
There is not a lot of pruning necessary when the branch
becomes one with the vine.
The little bits of dead wood are easily snipped away.
And in this place of oneness with Jesus,
we can ask whatever we want.
IF we live our lives in Him--
and His words are alive in us--
whatever we ask will come to us.
We can bank our lives on His word.
When I need a centering word in my busy world,
I quietly remember my identity in Him.
I am a branch.
