Because He Lives

I was listening to an older hymn this morning
from the new David Crowder album.
The song was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither
after a time in their lives when they experienced
sadness, loss, betrayal and depression.
After a close friend prayed for them,
they recall that the strength of the Holy Spirit came to them.
The power of Christ's resurrection
was reaffirmed in their hearts.
They were able to grab hold of that "blessed assurance"
that comes when we trust His Name.
And a song was birthed to express that truth.
What the enemy meant for darkness
comes over and over again to all who listen as beauty and light.
I am grateful to two people who didn't believe darkness
was the final verdict.
We have that opportunity everyday
to take what the enemy means for darkness
and proclaim that darkness is NOT the final verdict.
Through our testimonies, our writing, our songs, our art--
our very lives--
we declare that "He lives!"
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
The simple truth this morning is that,
He lives!
He is my home and my great assurance
that I can face this day with no fear,
no doubt, no striving.
Jesus modeled life, death, burial and resurrection
in ways that I look to for my hope.
And hope is ever my portion
 just because
He lives.
