Remember

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart.
And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.
So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Remember what I told you..." John 14
I could write out of John 14 every day.
There's something about John 14
that surprises me every time I read.
Jesus is talking to His disciples.
He tells them not to be troubled or afraid.
He is about to go away,
but tells them to remember what He's told them.
I think of the times when Dave and I
have gone out of town and left the kids for a while.
We gave them instructions and reassured them
that we took care of every detail so that they would be at peace.
We didn't just walk out the door hoping it would go well with them.
How sad for us if we thought they were anxious, frightened or wondering
if they would ever see us again.
"Remember what I told you."
The key to staying in peace
is remembering that what He spoke then
must apply now.
What was then is now--now.
Oh, the power of His voice in this moment.
Jesus, You have told me that You are faithful
even when I am not.
You are My strong tower, my vision, my life.
You never leave me or forsake me.
I hear Him say to me now,
"I chose you and I call you friend.
Remain in My love
throughout this day;
I will be your complete portion
and your total strength.
Remember."
