"As the Father hath loved Me,
so have I loved you:
so have I loved you:
continue ye in My love.
If ye keep My commandments,
ye shall abide in My love;
even as I have kept My Father's
commandments and abide in His love...
commandments and abide in His love...
love one another, as I have loved you.
Ye are my friends,
if ye do whatsoever I command you."
John 15
John 15
Jesus was telling His disciples that
His way must be their way.
His way must be their way.
He had obeyed His Father's commandments;
they must obey.
He had loved them; they must love.
And He told them how to do it:
His was a life of love and obedience to His Father.
"Even as I have kept."
It is why our eyes must be fixed on Jesus,
the author and finisher of our faith.
If it was natural to love and obey,
we wouldn't need to be commanded.
Jesus was commanded by His Father.
Not because it wasn't natural for Him;
but because it would not be natural for us.
"Just as I...so should you."
Jesus, I fix my gaze on You today.
I want to love like You,
keeping Your command to abide in Your love.
You laid Your life down
as a demonstration of Your way.
I want to lay my life down again
as a demonstration of Your way.
"..that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit
should remain."
