Gentle and Humble in Heart

Come to me, all of you who are
weary and over-burdened,
and I will give you rest!
Put on my yoke and learn from me.
For I am gentle and humble in heart
and you will find rest for your souls.
Matt 11:29

Jesus commanded those around Him to come,
put on His yoke and learn. The reason?
He was humble in heart.
As the Son of God, Jesus had a clue
as to how much they needed to be taught.
He could have said,
"I know things that you MUST know."
But the reason He gave them
was His gentleness and humility.
His heart was so for them.
"I want to give you rest.
I want your burden to be light.
I want to take away your weariness."

Jesus could have come to earth
postured in any number of ways.
He came as a Son, a Servant, a Teacher.
He came to represent His Father's heart
and demonstrate what a true Son looks like.
A true teacher looks like Jesus
--a heart for those being taught
with an attitude that says,
"The reason I am qualified to teach you
is that I am gentle and humble in heart."
Jesus, help me.
My focus has to be You.

I am weary and burdened;
You are humble and gentle.
All You ask is that I come.
If weariness is our only qualifier,
then I am completely qualified.
So, today, I come to You
in full confidence that You want to
take my weariness.
In exchange, You will give me
Your rest.
