It is Well with My Soul

Challenging days cause us to
discover our need at a deeper level.
Yesterday was a flat out hard day.
Got blind-sided by a blow to the heart.
Heart wounded, stomach right by its side
in sympathetic resolution.
That alliance--not easily broken.
The mind came along,
pulled in by the force of emotion.
I knew I needed to pull the heart and mind apart
and command both to find the Lord.
(The stomach is a follower;
it will agree with whatever they decide upon.)
The only place to send that duo is to God's Word.
Help Lord!
Desperately need perspective, trust,
resolve not to be offended, peace.

"I waited patiently for the Lord.
He turned to me and heard my cry...
He lifted me up and set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand...
I am poor and needy. May God think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer."
Psalm 40
In the midst of this tension,
which is not yet resolved,
I declare my trust in Jesus,
my help, my deliverer, my faithful friend.
Today, would You lead me beside still waters.
Would You restore my soul as I remind it that:
"It is well with you, O my soul.
Our King reigns and He is always good!"
