To be sane is more dramatic than to be mad.
It is easy to be a madman.
It is always easy to be a heretic.
It is always easy to be a modernist.
It is always easy to fall.
There are an infinity of angles
at which one falls,
at which one falls,
The angle which keeps one standing
is rooted in the unchangeable nature of Christ.
Paul tells us to stand firm and let nothing move us.
"To have fallen into any one of the fads
from Gnosticism to Christian Science
would indeed have been obvious and tame.
But to have avoided them all
has been one whirling adventure;
and in my vision the heavenly chariot
flies thundering through the ages,
the dull heresies sprawling and prostrate,
The wild truth reeling but erect."
~G.K. Chesterton
I love the way Chesterton talks about
the obvious fall into fads.
the obvious fall into fads.
Avoiding them is the wild ride
of following Christ on the narrow road,
of following Christ on the narrow road,
listening as the Holy Spirit leads and guides
us on this great adventure.
The picture of heresies sprawling and prostrate.
Wild truth standing erect.
On Christ, the Solid Rock I stand,
all other ground is shifting sand.
Truth.
